Software development at MyBuilder
Our focus is to produce high quality, working and tested code which not only keeps us happy and productive, but also helps the business to succeed. Our development process has been honed through exploring various flavours of agile and we believe that our way of working helps us get the right things done at the right time.
Our main technology stack is Symfony2 on PHP 5.6, PostgreSQL, Apache, Varnish, Kong, React. This is open to change as our needs evolve.
We have released a number of tools as open source projects and contribute back to projects we use.
The right person
Just like many of our tradesmen you should consider yourself to be a craftsman:
- EITHER at least 3 years commercial experience.
OR previous significant contribution to an open source project.
- You strive to constantly learn and improve your software engineering skills.
- You will have the desire and ability to write good quality object oriented PHP using modern design patterns and clean code.
- You understand that maintenance — bug fixing, addressing technical debt, refactoring, increasing automated test coverage — are as important as writing new code.
- You want to be a team player who understands and values our unique culture.
MyBuilder.com started with an original idea back in 2004. The founder of the company, Ryan Notz, was a stonemason who became frustrated with the way the construction industry worked. He noticed that even excellent tradesmen rarely have enough of the right sort of work, and at the same time homeowners find it difficult to get the right tradesmen. The web created the perfect opportunity to solve this problem, so Ryan packed away his chisels and MyBuilder was born.
MyBuilder won the Seedcamp startup competition in 2007, received numerous other business and entrepreneurial awards, and has heavyweight backing from Travis Perkins, Channel 4, and many well known internet angel investors.
We’ve accomplished a lot so far, but we’re still a startup - with lots of exciting projects in the pipeline. If you want to get stuck in and make a difference in a stimulating and challenging new role, we’d love to meet you.
